To kick off VeganMoFo, I thought I would share with you a few photos of some of the best vegan food I've had this year! In August, the fiancé and I made a trip back east to attend a friend's wedding. While we were there, we were able to visit some family, too, who took us on a little trip to New York for dinner. When they asked where we wanted to go, I jumped at the chance to check out
Candle 79. I had heard wonderful things about it, and was not disappointed! I snapped a few shots of the food, though it was rather dark inside. Here are a few highlights from our meal.

Smoked Hummus Appetizer |
|
Ravioli Appetizer |
We started with a few appetizers, and both were delicious. As you can see, the hummus was paired with a head of roasted garlic, olives, and grilled paratha bread. Yum!
|
Seitan Piccata |
I ordered the Seitan Piccata, and I was pleasantly surprised. Piccata is pretty much my favorite dish, but this was a new take on it for me. The flavors were so subtle and delicate, and it was topped with some sort of huge caper! I loved it.

Stuffed Avocado Salad |

Seaweed Salad

We also enjoyed the delicious, fresh salads Candle 79 had to offer. The Stuffed Avocado salad had tons of goodies like quinoa, butternut squash, and toasted sunflower seeds. My fiancé's Seaweed Salad was fresh and light, and had my favorite mushrooms ever, shiitake, in it. So that was a winner, too.

Chocolate Peanut Butter Cake |
We finished off with an amazing Chocolate Peanut Butter Cake, as well as their Decadent Chocolate Cake (photo was blurry, sorry). Both were absolutely delicious!

Candle 79 |
What I liked most about Candle 79 was that it offered a real gourmet dining experience with truly delicious vegan food. Many times I find that when a restaurant is hyped up like this one was, the food doesn't always live up to the hype. Luckily, Candle 79 really did in my opinion, and I would go back in a heartbeat. Even our omnivorous family members really enjoyed everything. Another bonus was a great wine and spirits list. I didn't manage to snap a photo, but I enjoyed a delicious cocktail with my meal as well. The atmosphere was charming and cozy, and the service was excellent. Wonderful food, great atmosphere, and great company: the perfect evening!
All of that food porn put me into hunger-mode!
